I do not recall distinctly when it began, but it was months ago.
I recall that the people went about with pale and worried faces,
and whispered warnings and prophecies which no one dared consciously repeat or acknowledge to himself that he had heard.
HP Lovecraft - Nyarlathotep - 1920

FRAGMENTS FROM THE WANING WORLD is an album deeply inspired by the writings of H. P. Lovecraft, drawing in particular from six stories published between 1920 and 1935.
The journey begins on the dreamlike shores of Kadath and ends in the urban darkness conjured by the prose poem Nyarlathotep. It traces a winding path through melancholy light, unfathomable mystery, uncanny fantasy, and the shadow of an inevitable end : the unmistakable signature of the Master of Providence.

Review by Jérôme Leclair
In a not-so-distant world where travel will have once again become science fiction, there will remain the experience of listening to Almost Random and his just-released album Fragments from the Waning World to bring back the most intact sensations. In the long introductory spectral arpeggio that would almost make us feel as if we were diving back into the magic of Das Rheingold, it is on the shores of the poisonous universes of H.P. Lovecraft that he says he wants to take us.
Almost Random always gives us the impression of embarking aboard a wandering vessel in an apocalypse where feverish anticipation gives way to a heartbreaking light, where passing through a door could plunge us into a black hole. These disturbing contrasts blend into one another in the greatest mystery, as if Erich Zann himself, like Frankenstein, had come to life to write the soundtracks for the stories of his brilliant creator, left without sound until now. It is up to each of us to uncover its share of science fiction, through six tracks that let the darkness answer our deepest questions.
This album is dedicated to David Camus, whose translations allowed me to rediscover H.P. Lovecraft for the first time, forty years later.
His writings deeply influenced the creation of each of these tracks.
A heartfelt thank you to Ivan Cohen and Adrien Perinot, without whom none of this would ever have been recorded.
Available on Bandcamp and Plateforms.
